And We're Off

photo credit2010 is off with a bang...just not for our Pens. They played their first game of the new decade against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Speaking of which...what's with the whole "Bolts" thing? I mean, I get it, 'lightning' 'bolts', but the wording is still really prominent. I guess every team needs a one syllable name that they can yell out after the triple airhorn blast. But enough about those guys. We here at Staal Falls would like to extend our congratulations to the Penguins, with a particular shout-out to Crosby and Malkin. Thanks to goals scored last week, the Pens are no longer dead last in power play standings! They are tied for 29th. Out of 30. Hey, everyone has to start somewhere. And now for our recap:
++Times Jordan Staal fell: 3, at least...I have to admit to zoning out a bit in the middle
++Times Malkin landed in the box: 0, but Crosby did catch a penalty following a minor tantrum.
++Number of fights: 2, both minor
Unfortunately, it looks like the Pens have been channeling UNC basketball. And not the good kind where they win national championships. The crappy kind where they manage to blow a commanding lead and lose to teams that they should beat easily. For more examples of Penguins fail, see Monday's game against the Florida Panthers. Thanks to a minor power surge in our low grade electrical system, we missed the last period of said game. After learning the outcome, we decided it was for the best. Best of luck tonight as the Pens take on Ilya and the Atlanta Thrashers.
